King Lear - Good vs. Evil In the King Lear play, Shakespeare creates many conditions in which humans live in the world. The main characters in the play are used to portray Shakespeare's ideas. One of these ideas which Shakespeare is trying to portray is evil between the characters and in the world which are emphasized throughout the play. The evil, created by humans, is outweighed by good in the world of King Lear. Evil was created by humans who decided to do wrong to others. Duke of Albany, said that all evil people will be justly punished (ACT V, iii, 303). Albany indicated that it is the people who caused evil and people decided to do evil, not gods. Lear believes that since Edgar is out on the heath he must have given everything to his daughters as well (ACT III, iv, 62ff). Since he believes that Edgar gave everything to evil Lear must believe that people are the cause of evil. It were Lear's daughters who decided to do wrong to Lear and it was Lear's fault in giving away all of his land. Si ughters are the humans in the play, it is the humans who caused the evil and Lear believes that humans were the ones who created evil. Edgar, is another character in the play who believes that evil is caused by humans and not the gods. Edgar said, "The gods are just, and of our peasant vices make instruments to plague us" (ACT V, iii, 169). Edgar clearly says that the gods are right and it is the people who are responsible for promoting evil in the world. It is us who make the instruments necessary for evil to spread and plague the world. In the world of King Lear many characters believe evil was caused by the people and not by the gods. Even though evil was created by humans good will always exist. After King Lear was captured he showed that even if evil exists, good will always be present. Lear speaks about love with Cordelia in the prison cell and how they will still have each other despite of the evil around them (ACT V, iii, 8). On another occasion Lear also says that despite all the evil in the world the raw nature, which is good, is still unharmed (ACT IV, iv, 90-92). Lear discovers nature's beauty by playing with the mice and listening to the signing birds. While all the evil is at its peak and everything seems to be lost, the raw nature in the play is unharmed. The good exists even while the evil dominates the world. Good will not only exist if evil dominates, good will also outweigh evil eventually. The war which was lost by Cordelia and Lear, the good side, showed evil win (ACT V, ii). However, good over powered it after the war by Duke of Albany. The good in the play first was diminished to almost nothing but in the end more good was able to defeat evil in the play. When the two sisters began fighting between each other evil began fighting against evil (ACT V, i and iii). Eventually, because of that fighting between evil, good was able to over power evil. When the evil seemed strong and good almost non-existent, evil managed to fight itself and give good a chance to get stronger. At the end of the play evil was completely defeated and good once again dominated the world in the play. Although evil will always be present and people will be the reason why it exists, good will always outweigh evil. Through the characters, Shakespeare is able to portray how evil and man compose in the world. The evil will always exist but good will always win and dominate in the world of King Lear.

Being a woken up by the sound of the neighbor rooster was my favorite. Not to forget the different aromas coming from the prevalent peddlers made you just want to savor all the different bouquets coming there my little pink bedroom window. In addition, my grandparents planned a lot of activities to keep us amused. We and our friends used to go to the beach every morning, and sometimes we went in the afternoons too. We played a lot of board games such as dominoes, canasta, continental and monopoly. Also, we used to play outdoors for example we did races, played hide-and-seek, and took refreshing hose showers at the backyard. My grandfather would send us out on mini scavenger hunts around the yard for different things he would hide. While we would search for them he would change them locate and then yell out â€Å" Your so freezing cold ; wrong direction† in creole, then start laugh. My grandmother would take us with her on occasion to the Marche aux Puces and we would go around and view the different Merchants who enticing fragrance would wake me up in the morning. At night we would lay under the stars in the backyard and enjoy what we bought from the Marche aux Puces. Last but not least, was the exquisite meals that we ate there. My grandfather was a wonderful cook, and he used to prepare tasteful dishes for us. We tried vegetables, seafood, and all kind of meat made for him. Sometimes, my grandparents and we went out to dinner and could taste a wide variety of meals. The beautiful location left indelible marks in our minds. The amusing time that we passed there is unforgettable. I never try again a meal with the delicious taste of my grandfathers meal. For all of that, my grandparents house was in my memory as the most favorite place that I visited during my childhood.

1. Describe the impression you form of Gary Black (Blacky) in the first 4 to 5 chapters of the novel. I get the impression that Blacky has a shy, quiet personality and tends to keep his thoughts to himself. He seems curious because he asks a lot of questions and also anxious because he over thinks situations. 2. Blacky’s community is literally divided into two halves; those who live in The Port and those who live at The Point. Make a list of the features of the town that you think represent life there and explain reasons for choosing them. Blacky’s community is a small, run down town with little to do and almost everyone knows each other. The Port is a sleepy coastal town. In winter, the only action in town is the local football competition and in summer the action revolves around the beach and the interest provided by the annual campers. 3. I think the relationship between Gary and Dumby Red influenced him the most because he changed Blacky’s views on racism and taught him to accept and understand the Aboriginal culture and realise how racist and judgmental people can be in society. 8. I agree with this statement because at the start of the novel Gary is a nervous teenager and by the end of the no vel he makes and ends relationships, learns new morals and values through different people, trusts himself to make his own decisions and becomes more independent, courageous and develops a more defined, unique personality of his own. 10. Most of the adult characters in Deadly Unna seem to be flawed in some way. Which of the adult characters do you consider to be the most deserving of praise? Why? I think Dumby Red’s father deserved the most praise because he was always kind to the community and showed good manners to everyone unlike most of the adults in the novel. After his son was killed, he showed no anger towards Blacky when he showed up for the funeral, even though it would be difficult to show any sympathy to someone who lives in the Port because of the racism and the obvious reason that his son was killed there. 11. When Blacky and his brothers and sisters paint over the racist slur at the shed he remarks; â€Å"It was gone. Not forever, but for tonight anyway.† Why was he so intent on removing the graffiti when he knows that someone is likely to write it again? I think he was intent on removing the graffiti because even though someone would write it again one day, he made a difference that night and took a stand against racism with his siblings.
